Canadian National Railway Company (CN) moved a record 3.54 million metric tonnes of grain and processed grain products across Canada in October, setting a new monthly high for the railway.

CN announced the result Nov. 5. The total surpassed its previous monthly record of 3.51 million tonnes, set in October 2025. Shipments of grain and processed grain products in western Canada reached 3.43 million tonnes, matching the region’s October record from the same year.

The railway credited customer demand and coordination among grain-sector partners, along with its focus on reliable, efficient transportation. CN said it is working with grain customers, port terminals and other partners to keep Canadian grain moving to domestic and international markets through winter.

Across nearly 20,000 miles of track, CN links Canada’s coasts with the U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast. The company said its Winter Plan includes measures intended to support safe, reliable service as winter approaches. Separately, CN said its efforts position it to meet customer demand throughout the 2026-27 crop year.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City also reported October shipment records in Canada and the United States, extending a month of record grain movement reported by the two railways.
