PETALUMA, Calif., Sept. 21, 2017 -- Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX), the world leader in Subscriber Driven Intelligent Access, announced the addition of the lawful intercept capability to the AXOS Subscriber Management module (SMm). Another step towards redefining the access edge by collapsing more functionality in the access network and improving network economics, lawful intercept enables service providers to replicate data from their network and more efficiently provide law enforcement access to information as part of the warrant process. Lawful intercept orders at the U.S. federal level have increased 72 percent over the last decade, and 11 percent over the last year and costs for non-compliance can be as high as $10,000 per day making this a top-of-mind issue for all service providers. With this capability moved into the access network through the AXOS platform, service providers can now consolidate the subscriber management, aggregation, OLT, and the lawful intercept functions into a single network location to reduce both the capital, as well as the operational, expenses necessary for compliance.
"Lawful intercept marks yet another milestone in the development of the AXOS platform and is a natural next step in the evolution of the recently introduced Calix AXOS SMm," said Shane Eleniak, Calix vice president of systems products. "Armed with this feature, service provider compliance with lawful intercept becomes less burdensome not only to the service provider but also to subscribers who may have historically had service interrupted when implementing these orders. On the heels of a series of other recent AXOS innovations – such as the addition of 10G EPON functionality or the addition of an ON.Lab connector for CORD implementations with OFx – Calix innovation continues at an unprecedented pace, including allowing service providers to change the way they architect and run their networks by collapsing networking functions into a single, easy to manage, always on, and automated platform.”
For the majority of service providers around the world, lawful intercept is a legal requirement from law enforcement agencies. Through AXOS, the Calix E9-2 Intelligent Edge System becomes an enabled Intercept Access Point and interoperates with ATIS mediation devices that follow the CALEA standards. With the componentized and always-on approach of AXOS, any lawful intercept activity can now be conducted without effecting subscriber-facing services, while at the same time maintaining the highest level of security and protection for network data.
