‘Call of Duty’ Rumors: ‘Black Ops 4’ Could Support up to 60 Players

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” has been something of a controversial topic within the gaming community of late. Not only does it supposedly break the franchise formula by being strictly multiplayer, it will also apparently come with a battle royale mode. With regards to that last part, new “Black Ops 4” rumors have also been going around suggesting that it could support up to 60 players.

This latest “Black Ops 4” rumor is courtesy of a new screenshot going around, which Game Rant calls “fairly convincing.” The image features a screen with quite a few details on display, including a player-count of two to 60. The publication rightly points out that this would be considerably fewer than what other battle royale games on the market are offering.

On that note, this detail might not mean anything by the time the game is finally released. It’s worth pointing out that while the mode has been in the works for a while, it’s still relatively a mystery. The developers could just as easily decide to expand the number of players to 100 or more.

This “Black Ops 4” rumor could also prove to be a useful testbed for Treyarch, which is the studio working on the game. If the community responds negatively to the news that they might be able to play against only 59 other people, the developers could have enough time to make the right adjustments.

In terms of how well the concept of a battle royale mode could fit a franchise like “Call of Duty,” though, limiting players to 60 at a time might actually be the right move. Such a player count would inevitably mean smaller maps, which would then lead to more fast-paced action, Comicbook.com notes.

The series’s multiplayer offerings have always been known for adrenaline-pumping bouts that end fairly quickly. If “Black Ops 4” strays too far from that with its battle royale mode, it could do the franchise more harm than good.
