Carmelo Anthony is still searching for a team that would take him in. Right now, rumors are circulating that the 34-year-old veteran could be wearing purple and gold soon.
According to Lakers Nation, Carmelo Anthony could land on the Los Angeles Lakers and Lebron James might be the key to his transfer. The basketball icon previously said that he’s interested in playing with the ten-time NBA All-Star, although James left a lot of room for ambiguity.
“We’ll see. I mean, I don’t run the team and obviously, there are some things that would need to be worked out on both sides. But I’ve always wanted to play along [Carmelo Anthony], and if the opportunity presents itself, it would be great. So we’ll see what happens,” James said.
The problem here is that the Lakers currently doesn’t have any open spot on its roster. So in order to make room, the team will need to waive someone on the team or find a trade. Naturally, the organization is reluctant to do both given Carmelo Anthony’s performance in recent years.
While the veteran has made a name for himself in the league as a lethal scorer, his skills aren’t what it used to be. The Rockets aren’t even incorporating Carmelo Anthony into their rotation at the moment. But even though this is the case, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said that he’s confident that ‘Melo will eventually find a team.
This isn’t to say that the vet will find it easy, however. Carmelo Anthony hasn’t played in fourth months and the last game he played he only drained one single shot in 11 attempts, CBSSports reported. That is not a good look for someone whose career is built on making offensive plays.
It’s no secret by now that Carmelo Anthony is a liability when it comes to the defensive part of things. In fact, it’s this very element of his playstyle that critics have pointed out time and time again. With the trade deadline coming on Feb. 7, significant development on this story will likely surface in the coming weeks.
