Centrica PLC has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply Frankfurt Airport’s owner, Fraport AG, with electricity from a northern Germany wind farm.
Under the five-year contract, which starts in July 2023, Centrica will offtake power from a 22-MW recently commissioned wind farm developed by PNE AG.
The energy trader will provide Fraport AG, which is targeting zero carbon emissions by 2045, with 63 GWh of renewable electricity a year.
Jan Gibbert, head of German Origination at Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading, noted that with Germany’s green transition is accelerating, the focus on sustainability and demand for renewable energy solutions continues to grow.
