Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met Pakistan’s foreign minister on Monday during his first official visit, with talks covering cultural exchanges and broader ties.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Liu arrived in Islamabad on Nov. 1 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The ministry said the visit included meetings with Pakistani leaders and an event Liu would co-chair with Dar.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to stronger ties with China. The two also discussed cultural links and exchanges between their peoples, Radio Pakistan reported.

At an Islamabad symposium, Dar called for wider cooperation among academic and policy institutions on governance, poverty alleviation and development planning. Liu said China and Pakistan had long relied on each other, Radio Pakistan reported.

The two countries are marking 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. A Jan. 5 joint communiqué says their next strategic dialogue will be held in Islamabad in 2027, with the dates to be agreed by both sides.
