Computex 2018 Sees Rise in Dual-Display Computers

At the Computex 2018 currently happening in Taipei, tech giants flocked to show off their latest products and concepts. One of the standout affairs during the gathering is the trend of computers with dual displays that basically turn them into laptops, tablets and electronic paper displays in one. This makes them incredibly versatile.

One of the companies that offered one of these dual-display computers during the event was Intel, which brought along its device called Tiger Rapids, CNET reports. According to Gregory Bryant, the company’s senior vice president of client computing, this could become the next big trend in laptop computing.

"You're going to see secondary displays, you're going to see other [ways] of interacting with that [PC] platform," he said about the matter. "You'll probably see foldable displays, you'll see things that are bendable, you'll see things that fit in your purse. One of the most obvious things you'll see is things that just don't look like the traditional or legacy PC."

According to Engadget’s coverage of the Tiger Rapids, the unit responds fairly smoothly as well. This applies to the stylus that Intel provides with the device, and it’s basically the kind of e-paper display that designers and artists might have been looking for.

Another company that showed off this kind of new laptop was Asus, with its Project Precog concept device. It also folds and flips like one of those tablet laptops in the market, but it features two screens instead of just one, with the other being a physical keyboard. The unit apparently also adapts to what it predicts the user will want based on the position of the screen. The display is 4K.

Many of these devices that were on display during the event are expected to become available soon, with some scheduled to launch by the end of the year. Time will tell if this is truly a game-changing event in the world of laptops.
