ITV's long-running soap has had generations of viewers hooked as the multitude of lives the stories have followed tend to bite close to home. But the almost-twice-a-week broadcast of the beloved soap does not stop “Coronation Street” from focusing on particularly dramatic moments in its stories. This time around, the Barlows will be getting a special episode just for them.
“Coronation Street” has already been hinting at the upcoming Barlow conflict when it posted its storyline teasers at the start of the month. Fans already know that Sinead's (Katie McGlynn) secret has devastating consequences considering that she has recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer while pregnant with her and Daniel Osbourne's (Rob Mallard) child.
In the upcoming “Coronation Street” special that will focus on the Barlow family, fans can expect the relationship between Daniel Osbourne and Ken Barlow (William Roache) to be strained further as the reason for Sinead's hospitalization will be revealed. According to the special episode's teaser, Daniel is still unaware of Sinead's pregnancy up until his wife-to-be collapses and is sent to the hospital due to her sickness.
Sinead's collapse will be the reason why she eventually shares the truth to Daniel, including the reveal that – amongst the Barlows – only Ken knows of Sinead's cervical cancer. This also reveals to Daniel that it would be impossible for Sinead to undergo cancer treatment while she is pregnant, forcing her to either choose treatment by aborting the baby or foregoing it to potentially save her child. The “Coronation Street” teaser shares that Daniel will most likely pour out all his resentment at Ken after learning about his role in keeping Sinead's sickness a secret.
In addition to Daniel venting out at his father, the teaser also mentions that Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) will be sharing a moment with his half-brother to talk about their own experiences of Ken Barlow being a bad father throughout “Coronation Street's” run. The heart-breaking clincher is the reveal that their conversation will be heard by the elder Barlow, furthering the estrangement that Ken already suffers with his sons.
Fans looking forward to how well the Barlows can bounce back from the fallout of the news about Sinead's cervical cancer can catch the upcoming special when it airs on Oct. 29. Hopefully, Daniel's father issues will not stop him from finding a solution to his and Sinead's current dilemma.
