South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. has secured a 72.26 billion won order to build six container ships from a European company.
The orders have a delivery date of Jan. 31, 2023.
The client, which Daewoo Shipbuilding did not reveal, has the option to cancel for a maximum of two carriers.
Daewoo Shipbuilding has so far secured $3.95 billion worth of orders this year to build 19 vessels, including six container ships, meeting 55 percent of its annual target.
Daewoo Shipbuilding also developed South Korea's second locally-built KSS-III class submarine, which was recently launched.
The diesel-powered submarine, called Ahmnu, is capable of launching ballistic missiles, which South Korea is planning to obtain.
