Israel initiated a major offensive against Iran on June 13, 2025, which was classified as essentially aimed at attacking the country's nuclear facilities and military bases, including explosives that were reported in Tehran. This was known as a "preemptive strike.". Israel's officials defended the attack, arguing that it was necessary to counteract the existential threat caused by Iran's growing nuclear program and prevent them from acquiring weapons of mass destruction. They stated that this was the start of a multi-phase process.'
The attack resulted in reported explosions in Tehran, as well as flight canceled from Imam Khomeini International Airport and with Israel announcing it was entering into retaliation. The strikes also claimed the life of the leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
In response to the international reaction, America explicitly refuted any intention to take action against Israel, asserting that their primary concern was the safety of American military personnel stationed in the area. After the IAEA condemned Iran's nuclear program and revealed its intention to construct a new enrichment facility, the attack coincided with an increase in tensions related to the country'S national nuclear plant. The situation is still highly uncertain, with the possibility of more Israeli attacks and a wider regional conflict.
