“No Man’s Sky” by “Hello Games” studio is one of the most highly anticipated video game titles of 2016, with rabid fans eagerly waiting for its release day. However, it seems that fans of the game proved a little too rabid as a recent announcement that the game would be delayed resulted in a string of death threats aimed at the studio and the people working there.
The whole debacle actually started when “Kotaku” reported a rumor that the game might be delayed last Wednesday. At the time, there hasn’t been any confirmation from the studio, but the simmering frustration among the followers of the game was already starting to show when some of them sent the author of the article, Jason Schreier, death threats.
When it was revealed that the rumors were actually true and the release date for “No Man’s Sky” would be pushed from June to August, those same fans blamed “Kotaku” again for supposedly forcing the game’s delay by writing about it. As if this reaction wasn’t bizarre enough, the head of “Hello Games” Sean Murray also tweeted that he was receiving death threats according to Forbes.

Of course, delays have always been part of the video game industry, with some of the biggest titles actually getting released years after the original date. As such, fans should be used to such developments by now. Apparently, this is not the case.
The central premise of “No Man’s Sky” is the ability of players to explore a vast universe where they can visit planets and claim them as their own. The game is supposed to be so big that players will hardly ever run into each other, if at all. This is one of the biggest reasons why so many are looking forward to the game and why some are so frustrated about the delay that they would issue death threats.
