‘Detective Pikachu’ Release Date, Spoilers: Pikachu Voiced by Alex Jones, ‘Furry’ Issue Divides Fans

Detective Pikachu.IGN/YouTube

“Detective Pikachu” just dropped a trailer recently and it took the internet by storm. Many expressed their excitement over the potential of this movie adaptation of the video game. However, with the internet being the internet, some people just couldn’t leave it well enough alone. Someone just had to dub Alex Jones’ voice to make Pikachu sound like him, and then there are the “furry” issue diving fans.

As the likes to dislikes ration on this particular “Detective Pikachu” trailer shows, most fans are hopeful about its prospects than they are skeptical. It’s not hard to see why either with Ryan Reynolds’ performance as the electric mouse Pokemon playing detective being surprisingly good. Hardly anyone expected this outcome, and yet here it is.

Of course, the trailer is not the best indicator of the quality of “Detective Pikachu” since great editors can do wonders in misleading viewers. However, there really seems to be some promise in this movie and most are willing to give it a chance. On that note, there are also those who saw the trailer and thought that Deadpool is not the right voice for Pikachu. Instead, they replaced him with Alex Jones.

The result is this abomination posted on Twitter where the wit and charm of Ryan Reynolds are washed away by vitriol and spit. It’s a fun experiment, to be sure, but it’s also one that almost makes one not want to watch “Detective Pikachu” just to avoid being reminded of the experience.

Then there’s the matter of “Detective Pikachu” being bombarded by complaints due to the fur that covers the Pokemon. The BBC reports, it would seem that some internet users simply can’t deal with the fact that the creatures in this movie look so realistic.

While some are just fine with the mouse Pokemon having fur, there are those who are not okay with it. When “Detective Pikachu” airs on May 11, 2019, perhaps things will have already settled down.
