It’s long been speculated that “Dexter” Season 9 will happen. Even though the show’s final installments got bad reviews, diehard fans have been asking Showtime to revive the crime-drama series.
Michael C. Hall, the actor playing the show’s titular antihero, said in an interview that he’s open to the possibility of a comeback. However, Hall said that “Dexter” Season 9 should have a concrete plot to it if the showrunners ever want him to sign on, OtakuArt reported.
“It’s a possibility given how the show ended that we could revisit Dexter. It will be interesting to see whether or not the show makes a return. The fans will take this opportunity to spread the word. But, I wouldn’t be too confident. However, it is definitely going to be worth watching,” Hall said.
Critics are pointing out that the crime-drama series had so much potential but quickly took a nosedive when gripping characters suddenly turned into hollow versions of themselves. Even if this was the case, however, some fans still want a “Dexter” Season 9 since it didn’t really manage to tap into the promising avenues it showed.
Glimpses of these can be seen in some of its episodes, particularly when the antihero went against protagonists like the Trinity Killer or The Ice Truck Killer. During development of this plotline, the crime-drama series had been riveting, pulling audiences in with moments that chased each other like heartbeats. But outside of these, fans were left with droning monologues, poor character development, and the ghost of Dexter’s father who kept reminding him that murder is wrong.
And because the anniversary of the show’s finale is happening this September, rumors are rising again that “Dexter” Season 9 is in the works. No such luck for hardcore fans, however, as most of the noise being generated at the moment isn’t coming from the show's mother network.
