The voice chat service that many PC players prefer, Discord just celebrated its third year anniversary. On top of the annual occasion, however, the company also had another reason to throw a party because it just surpassed 130 million users. As if that number wasn’t impressive enough, it was only at 45 million back in March of 2017, which means that its registered users tripled in the space of a year.
Up to 19 million users are employing Discord on a daily basis, with peak concurrent numbers reaching 8.2 million, Variety reports. Fortnite Battle Royale is naturally the platform’s biggest server, with about 180,000 members, followed by Vainglory and PUBG.
As to how this service managed to grow its user base so fast, a lot of it is being attributed to its partnership with Spotify and Xbox, which significantly expanded the benefits of being on the platform. By and large, Discord is a social service and allowing users to display what they are listening to or being able to keep track of what friends are playing on the Microsoft console inevitably provided it with plenty of charm.
More to the point, Discord is also really easy to use, CNET notes. This accessibility basically provided users with the biggest reason to try it out and with the lack of intimidation, it proliferated like crazy.
What’s more, the platform doesn’t close anyone off. It can be paired with pretty much any third-party service, thus increasing its popularity even more. It doesn’t try to compete but rather to integrate what’s already available to users. This saves people from having to re-learn entirely new functionalities or be forced to choose between its preferred service and Discord.
Even video game developers are now using Discord more prominently, which only increases the service’s reach. It turns out that being friendly with everyone really does pay off.
