The first couple of the United States, President Donald Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump, are constantly under scrutiny from the general public. As rumors about the status of their marriage continue to go around, it is worth wondering who would get custody of their son in the event of a divorce.
While it is clear that the First Couple is nowhere near the point of getting a divorce, the possibility of the two parting ways still up for speculation. If Donald’s two previous divorces were anything to go by, it would give people some idea of who gets what, including their only son, Barron Trump. Donald’s first wife, Ivana Trump, previously revealed that she got full custody of their three children: Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump, along with a $14 million divorce settlement. Ivana even expressed that the credit in raising their three children belonged to her, juggling between her life as a businesswoman and a single mother, she was able to bond and take care of her children.
"I made the decisions about their education, activities, travel, child care, and allowances. When each one of them finished college, I said to my ex-husband, 'Here is the finished product. Now it’s your turn.'" said Ivana.
So it may seem to suggest that Melania would be taking sole custody of Barron in the event that they divorce. Donald’s second wife, Marla Maples, also took full custody of their only daughter, Tiffany Trump. Some of the details of their prenuptial agreement were disclosed, revealing that Donald would only pay Maples $1 million in case they divorced within five years, and an additional $1 million for her to buy a house. It also stipulated that Donald would stop making child support payments for Tiffany when she turned 21 years old.
Based on the experiences of his two ex-wives, the same may not be said when it came to Melania. Previously reported by Business Insider, it is possible that the First Lady may ask for more money in the event of a divorce due to the big lifestyle changes she had to make upon moving into the White House. Donald may also be the one in charge of giving Melania and Barron a new home, assuming that they would move out of the White House once the divorce is finalized.
