“Dragon Ball Super” season 2, or the anticipated continuation of the “Universe Survival” saga, was recently reported to return sometime in 2019. The information, however, did not come from producers of the anime series. But animation studios attached to the popular franchise have since released an official update and it might not sound good for fans.
A few weeks ago, Geekdom101 reported hearing from an unspecified source that “Dragon Ball Super” season 2 is slated to return in July. The outlet further claimed they have learned that the exact release date is on Sunday, July 7. The report further ignited fans’ excitement as it speculated on more detail announcements in the coming weeks.

It is also important to note that Geekdom101’s insider report was not the only story that seems to confirm the release of “Dragon Ball Super” season 2 in 2019. Toei Animation, the studio that produces the anime series, reportedly inadvertently announced they will be working on new episodes during an event of the National Association of Television Program Executives (via Resetera).
However, it turns out that both these claims have been denied by official sources. For one, Toei denied that there were any announcements about “Dragon Ball Super” season 2 at the NATPE event. Toei also told Newsweek in a statement that it “does not have plans to produce new ‘Dragon Ball Super’ episodes at this time.” Observing the studio’s choice of words in this message, it could mean that the series is simply on an indefinite hiatus.
Funimation, which is licensed to produce the series’ English-dubbed episodes, also weighed in on the reports of “Dragon Ball Super” season 2’s supposed 2019 premiere. The company reportedly told ComicBook that the “reports are false.”
While plans for “Dragon Ball Super” season 2 do not seem to be on Toei’s table right now, it is safe to assume that there could be more episodes in the future. It can be recalled that producers released the movie “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” last December as a continuation of the anime’s arc. The manga counterpart has also introduced a new main baddie named Moro.
So there are various options at how the story could continue in “Dragon Ball Super” season 2. Unfortunately, fans might have to wait for a long time to see it materialize in new anime episodes.
