India has become ChatGPT’s top market by weekly active users, while Rapido’s annualized gross order value quadrupled to $4 billion over two years, The Economic Times reported.

OpenAI India Managing Director Prabhjeet Singh told ET that the country’s weekly active user base had doubled since January 2026. He said India now ranked first globally on that measure. Singh said the growth reflected people finding “relevance and deep use cases.” He also described OpenAI’s enterprise work as shifting from pilots and demonstrations toward scaled adoption and production deployments.

OpenAI said Feb. 18 that India had more than 100 million weekly ChatGPT users. Four days earlier, OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman had described India as the service’s second-largest user base after the United States.

ET reported that Rapido, an Indian ride-hailing company, had reached $4 billion in annualized gross order value, or GOV, citing people familiar with the company. The outlet also reported about 8.3 million daily orders, with more than 95% categorized as ride-hailing orders. Monthly active users increased 27% from January to October 2026, ET said. It put Rapido’s footprint at nearly 500 cities, up from about 100 a few years ago.

Prosus said its May investment valued Rapido at $3 billion post-money and included $240 million in primary funding alongside secondary investment. The investor said Rapido then operated in more than 400 cities and supported over 9 million livelihoods in India. Prosus framed the expansion as reaching beyond major cities, where it said demand exists alongside fragmented mobility supply. EconoTimes previously covered Rapido’s role in India’s auto-tech funding.

Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka said the aim was to give the company’s “captains” “reliable, predictable earnings.” Singh also told ET that OpenAI expected announcements involving India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and other payments in the coming weeks, without giving a date or product details.
