Epic Games is no stranger to lawsuits. The company has been suing everyone from cheaters to the creators of cheating tools since launching “Fortnite Battle Royale.” Now, the company has a new target in the form of a tester who reportedly leaked crucial information about the game’s season 4. Epic is now asking for punitive damages as a result.
The whole kerfuffle began when a user posted detailed information about the upcoming season 4 of the game back in April, Comicbook.com reports. At the time, rumors about meteors were already circulating the web, and many of them were inaccurate. The exception was one user who seemed to have insider knowledge of the project.
Among the accurate details that were provided by the poster was the fact that the meteors would land in Dusty Depot and not Tilted Towers, as many rumors suggested. The contents of Battle Pass for that upcoming season were also hinted at by the poster. Even the superhero theme was revealed, which rounds that up to practically everything season 4 was about.
Naturally, Epic was displeased by this outcome and has since identified video game tester Thomas Hannah as the source of this information. While it doesn’t seem like Hannah wrote the details in the now-deleted Reddit posts himself, someone he spoke with might have.
This unnamed third party was apparently the one who was responsible for the leak, but he isn’t the one being sued, Forbes reports. In the defense that Hannah had recently released, the tester said that the leak only came about via a casual conversation with this third party. There was apparently no indication that this person would share the information with others.
Unfortunately, this defense still indicates that Hannah violated the NDA that he signed. As a result, Epic is coming in for the kill in an apparent attempt at making an example of him.
