Errol Spence Jr will be fighting Danny Garcia next. Unfortunately, boxing fans aren’t particularly interested in the match given that it’s Terrence Crawford that they want to see stepping in the ring with the Truth.
One of the major reasons for this is due to Garcia’s lackluster performance during his last four fights, winning two and losing two. Errol Spence Jr slugging it out with Garcia would’ve been way more interesting if the latter managed to win all of his recent fights.
Be that as it may, the match is already set in stone, and it looks like Errol Spence Jr will be squaring up against Garcia come January 25. Sports journalist Michael Benson said that Spence himself confirmed the fight, taking to Twitter to share the news.
Errol Spence Jr vs. Danny Garcia has the potential to produce greatness
“Errol Spence has now confirmed that his next fight will be in January. It was previously reported Jan 25th is the target date for a defense of his unified WBC & IBF welterweight titles against Danny Garcia,” Benson said.
While Garcia going against Errol Spence Jr isn’t an ideal matchup popularity-wise, it does have a chance to be memorable. In April, Garcia made a huge statement after finishing Adrian Granados early on, landing hooks left and right that got the referee deciding to stop the massacre.
If 31-year-old manages to bring the same heat against Errol Spence Jr, then there’s no doubt that the fight will at least be exciting. The problem here is that Granados and Spence aren’t on the same level.
Errol Spence Jr is bigger, powerful, and is just talented overall. For Garcia to even stand a chance against the Truth, he’ll have to employ Porter’s strategy of bringing the fight to Spence and making things awkward for the two-title holder.
Manny Pacquiao can go against Errol Spence Jr
On the other side of the conversation, Errol Spence Jr’s performance against Porter made a lot of people believe that Manny Pacquaio can actually stand a chance against the undefeated champion. And with Spence time and again expressing his desire to fight the Filipino slugger, the matchup could prove more interesting than the Garcia bout.
Of course, there are those who aren’t too keen to see that fight given that Pacquiao could get seriously hurt if Errol Spence Jr catches him during a wild exchange. However, with legendary coach Freddie Roach saying that there’s a possibility of Spence and Pacquiao squaring up, the fighting senator’s camp may already have a game plan to deal with Spence.
