SPRINGFIELD, Va., July 17, 2017 -- Eye Consultants of Northern Virginia, PC is pleased to welcome Benjamin D. Abramowitz, MD to its practice. Dr. Abramowitz is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and general ophthalmologist, and will see patients in the Springfield and Woodbridge office locations beginning July 31, 2017. He is specialty-trained in the latest glaucoma lasers and surgeries, including trabeculectomy, tube shunts, and the new and expanding field of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). He also performs cataract surgery as a standalone or combined procedure.
Dr. Abramowitz received his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then moved to the Washington, DC area to serve as an intern in Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center, where he was honored as Intern of the Year. Dr. Abramowitz obtained his ophthalmology training at The George Washington University, where he served as Chief Resident and earned the Mervin Zimmerman Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology Training. After residency, he completed a glaucoma fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Abramowitz has presented his research at numerous national, regional, and local meetings and authored several manuscripts and a book chapter on glaucoma. He remains active in clinical research to find new treatments for glaucoma. Dr. Abramowitz has volunteered in eye clinics in underserved communities and participated in mission trips to South America. He is also engaged in patient education and quality improvement projects to enhance healthcare delivery to the public.
Dr. Abramowitz lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife. Eye Consultants of Northern Virginia, PC looks forward to having him join the practice!
