Going through the notifications is the first thing to do for many Facebook users – who liked the pictures, who commented and what, birthday reminders and much more.
Facebook on Monday announced that it is starting to roll out a more useful - “expanded and personalized” notifications tab in the mobile app.
In addition to the notifications, users will be able to see and customize timely info such as friends’ milestones, like birthdays and life events; sports scores and TV reminders, based on Pages they’ve liked; upcoming events that they’ve joined.
Moreover, users can also add additional, optional information that is specifically tailored for them based on where they are (provided Location History in the Facebook app is enabled), including things happening around their community - like local events and news that is popular in the city of their residence; weather updates - current conditions and severe weather alerts; movies currently playing in theatres and a list of nearby places to eat, with links to the places’ Facebook Pages and reviews.
The users can adjust the settings for the notifications according to their preferences. They can also customize the info they see by tapping the arrow to the right of each card, or Add More Cards at the bottom of the tab.
