When it comes to the developments regarding the “Fast and Furious” franchise, it is no secret that there has been a rivalry brewing among the actors. Specifically, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson who plays Dom and Hobbs respectively have been at each other’s throats for a while now. As such, it has been speculated that the delay for “Fast and Furious 9” might be due to this rivalry.
It has already been confirmed that the director for “Fast and Furious 9” will be Justin Lin and Vin Diesel has already spoken about the delay, FilmyChef reports. The actor does not attribute the premiere date getting pushed back to any single person. However, this doesn’t mean that the fans are not going to speculate the development to death.
Simply put, “Fast and Furious 9” was supposed to come out on July 26 this year. As everyone should already know by now, though, “Hobbs & Shaw” is coming out this summer. This means that keeping the original premiere date would have meant a direct collision between these two films. As for who made the call to push the main numbered film back in favor of the spin-off and why this remains a mystery.
However, there have been rumblings that the bid to expand the “Fast and Furious” universe meant that there was more motivation to prioritize getting the spin-off out there. This theory is further fueled by rumors that a number of A-list celebrities will be joining the branch franchise. These include Keanu Reeves and Ryan Reynolds. With that in mind, it’s no wonder “Fast and Furious 9” was pushed back.
It is even being speculated that there is currently a coup going on with the franchise, with the main starting cast getting cannibalized. Pretty soon, Vin Diesel might no longer be the face of the film series. A lot is riding on “Fast and Furious 9” when it premieres on April 20, 2020.
