There are many who seem to be under the misunderstanding that the movie “Hobbs & Shaw” Starring Dwayne Johnson (Hobbs) and Jason Statham (Shaw) is “Fast and Furious 9.” It is not and is, in fact, a spin-off of the main series, which is causing all kinds of drama that is worth covering another time. As for the actual ninth installment to the major film series, it would appear that some female empowerment is the game.
In a rather interesting development involving “Fast and Furious 9,” Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz decided to throw in a condition to her signing up for the movie, Bloomberg recently reported. She basically wanted to bring a female writer onboard simply because the male ones were not serving her needs. This brings a rather notable level of girl power into the mix.
The main reason simply had to do with her getting fed up with having to rewrite lines that would not have made sense for her to say. With this in mind, the actress believed that a more feminine mind would be a huge benefit to her character in “Fast and Furious 9.”
“I felt like there was not enough of a female voice in the franchise,” the actress said. “You should evolve with the times, not just pander to certain demographics that are stuck in the past.”
From the standpoint of making movies, this move actually makes a lot of sense since the audience does respond to good dialogue. “Fast and Furious 9” can only benefit from having a female writer write the dialogue of female characters.
As for “Hobbs & Shaw,” which is definitely not “Fast and Furious 9,” a female writer is not as necessary for the main characters. The former is hitting cinemas on Aug. 2 while the latter will come out on April 9, 2020.
