Hundreds of readers of the popular Japanese publication Famitsu continuously vote for “Final Fantasy VII Remake” as the game they are most excited about. However, Square Enix has not yet announced a release date for the title.
GamingBolt reports that “Final Fantasy VII Remake” took the top spot on the list of most awaited video games for the past several weeks. Famitsu rounds up votes from its actual readers. And the same report shares that “Final Fantasy VII Remake” garnered over 700 votes in the magazine’s latest poll in just a matter of seven days (July 12 to 18). Following “Final Fantasy VII Remake” on the list is another major title from Square Enix, “Kingdom Hearts 3,” with more than 600 votes.
The interest in the release of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” among Japanese fans is a good indication for Square Enix. This means that many are still positive about the release of the game despite not knowing how long will it take before it becomes available.
Square Enix officially announced “Final Fantasy VII Remake” at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) during the Sony PlayStation press event. The next official teaser for the title was released during the franchise’s 30th-anniversary festivities in 2017. But over a year later, the developers are still mum on the title’s release date or even the year when it will be launched.
In an interview earlier this year, “Final Fantasy VII Remake” director Tetsuya Nomura admitted that they revealed the game is in the pipeline earlier than necessary. “I am well aware of the fact that we announced it too early,” Nomura said (via Kingdom Hearts Insider). “But even in the industry, word was beginning to spread that we were working on the game, so we just decided not to keep it more secret and officially reveal it.”
The game director was likely referring to rumors about the making of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” that started circulating in 2014. For example, a former NeoGAF community member known as Verendus claimed that the release of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” is “happening.”
Meanwhile, Square Enix appears to still be developing the game and was is, in fact, looking for more people to join the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” team. A recent job listing even revealed that the game is possibly being redesigned as an action RPG title.
