“Final Fantasy VII: Remake” is still a long way off and Square Enix is hard at work on their studio in creating the reimagining. The much-anticipated title is speculated for release around 2020 although nothing is set in stone given the studio hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
Game director Tetsuya Nomura recently released a statement hinting that 2019 will see a lot of representations for “Final Fantasy VII: Remake.” This is hardly surprising given that most of the studio’s focus has now shifted on the reimagining as they’ve finally finished polishing “Kingdom Hearts 3.”
Game producer Yoshinori Kitase also said that development is going “smoothly” at the moment and they’re trying their best to meet the expectations of fans. Right now, complaints are being made online revolving around the studio’s decision to outfit “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” with a real-time battle mechanics.
The hardcore following of the original game are arguing that Square Enix should stick with an ATB (Action Time Battle) playstyle instead. While this game mechanic was one of the main reasons for the success of the reimagining’s predecessor, Nomura said that a real-time battle would make more sense for “Final Fantasy VII: Remake.”
"The original version had random encounters, and such parts were in the realm of imagination, but since this title is seamless and you see the path that you're infiltrating, I decided it was necessary for the sake of realism,” Nomura explained. Another request by the fans is that the map of “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” should be expansive and it looks like it will be.
In fact, the game will be so massive that Square Enix decided to release it episodically. This will allow the developers to truly broaden the game’s landscape while giving the studio an opportunity to progress in a cost-effective manner. Hopefully, the release of “Kingdom Hearts 3” on Jan. 29 will come with official announcements concerning “Final Fantasy VII: Remake.”
