Nike has unveiled the Nike Kobe 5 Protro 'Year of the Mamba,' set for release in 2025. Meanwhile, Nike is releasing Green Goblin’s Flightposite in clog form later this year, reviving an iconic movie moment for sneaker fans.
Nike to Honor Kobe Bryant in 2025 With 'Year of the Mamba' Kobe 5 Protro Collection
Kobe Bryant fans have much to look forward to in 2025, as it promises to be a year-long celebration of the legendary Black Mamba. On the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, symbolizing wisdom, charm, elegance, and transformation—attributes that embody Bryant’s legacy. In line with this, Nike has prepared a unique collection of Nike Kobe footwear to commemorate the Year of the Mamba.
A first look at the Nike Kobe 5 Protro, “Year of the Mamba,” reveals an eye-catching design featuring a Swoosh logo that transforms into a snake. According to Sneaker News, these early images, likely of a sample pair due to markings on the sole, show one of two colorways set to drop in 2025, the other being a red and gold edition that remains under wraps. Initially rumored to be the Kobe 5 “Eggplant,” this version features a metallic purple upper with a black heel, interior, laces, and Swoosh. A translucent rubber outsole keeps the design simple, allowing the golden Mamba snake to take center stage.
The Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba” is expected to be released on February 8, 2025, with both adult and GS sizes available. Fans of the late NBA star can look forward to a fitting tribute through this stunning footwear collection.
Nike Revives Iconic 'Green Goblin' Colorway With Clogposite Release Set for Late 2024
Meanwhile, Nike also pays homage to an iconic moment in comic book movie history with the return of the Nike Clogposite in a “Green Goblin” colorway. In 2002’s Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of Norman Osborn—the Green Goblin—featured him wearing the Nike Air Flightposite, seamlessly blending the shoe's unique design into the villain's costume. Nike is reintroducing a similar colorway as part of the Clogposite collection.
The Nike Clogposite, a cult favorite from the early 2000s, has made a notable comeback in 2024. It has gained popularity within the fashion community and is highly sought after by sneakerheads, particularly after Supreme’s involvement. The “Green Goblin” colorway features a foam-molded upper bathed in a goblin-esque green with black accents on the stretchy upper padding, interior lining, and outsole.
Nike plans to release the Clogposite “Green Goblin” during the final quarter of 2024, retailing for $140. Fans can expect to find these on SNKRS and select retailers. As a note for buyers, these shoes tend to run small, so it’s recommended to size up by at least half a size.
