Cyberbullying is not exactly new, but thanks to recent proactive solutions that were introduced by both the public and private sectors, cases of extreme harassment have seen a decline. However, there are still instances that continue to baffle experts such as the case of popular “Fortnite” streamer, Ninja. It would seem that simply watching his live streams can result in bullying.
“Fortnite” is something of a controversial subject within the gaming community, with many hardcore enthusiasts not even considering the title worth calling a video game. To a small but very vocal minority, the Battle Royale title is basically garbage and anyone playing or enjoying it are the same. This goes far in explaining why there are a rising number of instances where even those simply watching other people play it are being harassed online.
Making things even more baffling is how some viewers are getting bullied for watching specific streamers such as the hugely popular Ninja. This is nothing new, of course, since the internet has been loudly against users having a personal preference for quite a while now. However, this led to the “Fortnite” streamer releasing a video response addressing the matter.
So far, it would seem that none of the abuses inflicted upon those who like to watch the “Fortnite” star have resulted in serious incidents. However, it is still worrying when simply watching someone on the web, who is relatively tame compared to other content producers on the internet, could result in harassment.
This is made even more concerning by the fact that some instances of the bullying have occurred in real life. Once again, this is nothing new. Although it has taken a new form, people have always been abused for simply liking something or someone. This arguably goes double for something as popular as “Fortnite,” which is currently the biggest video game in the world.
