France 24 reported that living costs were a major concern among voters its reporters met in Michigan, ahead of the state’s Nov. 3 U.S. Senate election.

The outlet cited an estimate from an unnamed NGO that about 40% of Michigan residents have difficulty covering essential expenses.

The Michigan Department of State’s general-election list names Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers as candidates for the open seat. Sen. Gary Peters announced in January 2025 that he would not seek reelection.

Voters are scheduled to choose between El-Sayed and Rogers on Nov. 3.
