Non-farm payroll employment increased in France in the second quarter. According to France’s official statistics office, INSEE, the non-farm payroll jobs increased 29,500, up 0.2 percent from the previous quarter. The rise is due to employment excluding temporary work. On a year-on-year, the principally market sector created 121,300 jobs, up 0.8 percent.
Employment continued to fall in the second quarter. It dropped 9,500 or 0.3 percent, after declining 6,500 jobs in the first quarter. Similarly, jobs continued to drop in construction, where employment fell 0.2 percent. On a year-on-year basis, industry lost 33,100 jobs, whereas construction lost 17,300 jobs, stated INSEE.
Temporary employment stabilized for two quarters. It was stable in the second quarter after adding 400 jobs in the first quarter. Meanwhile, employment in services excluding temporary work accelerated. It added 41,900 jobs following an addition of 29,500 in the first quarter. In all, the pace of job creation continued to be dynamic in the market services sector. On a year-on-year basis, temporary employment remained quite buoyant, adding 35,600 jobs, while the market services sector as a whole expanded by 171,800.
Also, the estimate of employment in principally market sectors has been revised down for the first quarter by 15,800, while the estimate for the second quarter has been revised up by 5,400, from the flash estimate released on 12 August.
