French private payroll employment continues to rise in Q4 2017

French private payroll employment continued to increase in the fourth quarter of 2017. Payroll employment rose 0.3 percent in the December quarter, the same as the third quarter growth, noted Insee. On a year-on-year basis, private payroll employment rose 1.3 percent. Stripping temporary employment, private payroll employment rose 0.2 percent sequentially and 1.1 percent year-on-year.

Private payroll employment continued to rise sequentially in agriculture and construction, rising 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, employment stabilized in industry. On a year-on-year basis, private employment rose 21,300 in construction, whereas it fell 10,000 in industry.

In the December quarter, private employment in market services rose robustly by 0.4 percent, the same as in the prior quarter. Excluding temporary employment, the rise continued to be pronounced at 0.4 percent. Private employment in non-market services dropped 0.2 percent in the quarter but still rose over a year by 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, temporary employment in the fourth quarter rose sharply by 1.1 percent, the same as in the prior quarter. On a year-on-year basis, temporary employment continued to rise dramatically by 6.6 percent.
