On Monday, General Motors debuted a redesigned Chevrolet Traverse for 2024, introducing a more truck-like aesthetic and the off-road-oriented Z71 model. The revamped Traverse boasts a large 17.7-inch touch screen and the cutting-edge Super Cruise hands-free highway driving assistance system, with production set to expand at GM's Michigan plant.
Inside, the Traverse features a redesigned interior with a spacious 17.7-inch-diagonal color touch screen as its centerpiece. It also incorporates new safety and convenience features, including GM's Super Cruise hands-free highway driving assistance system.
As historically one of GM's top-selling vehicles, the Traverse regularly surpasses the 100,000 unit mark annually. In fact, during the first half of this year, it trailed only behind the automaker's full-size pickups, the Chevy Malibu sedan, and the smaller Chevrolet Equinox crossover in terms of sales.
Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell stated that the new Traverse is designed and engineered to emulate an SUV. As it builds upon the success of its predecessor, particularly with the all-new Z71 model, the 2024 Traverse is poised to make its mark and attract even more customers.
The Traverse lineup will be powered by a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, boasting an estimated 315 horsepower and 317 foot-pounds of torque. This represents a change from the current 3.6-liter V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 266 foot-pounds of torque.
Notably, GM's Super Cruise hands-free highway driving assistance system offers advanced features such as acceleration, braking, and steering control using a combination of cameras, sensors, and mapping data. It also actively monitors the driver's attentiveness for enhanced safety.
Positioned between the Chevy Blazer crossover and the larger, more capable, and more expensive Chevy Tahoe SUV, the redesigned Traverse is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms in early 2024.
Pricing for the new Traverse has not yet been released. The unveiling occurred at GM's Lansing Delta Township plant in mid-Michigan, where the Traverse is manufactured. The current Traverse pricing ranges from approximately $34,500 to over $55,000.
During the vehicle's reveal, GM executives announced plans to add a third shift to the plant to accommodate the production of the redesigned Traverse. This is expected to occur in tandem with the assembly of redesigned versions of the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. Notably, this will mark the first time since 2017 that the plant will operate with three shifts.
