A recent update for Grand Theft Auto V unintentionally exposed PC files for Grand Theft Auto 6 and Red Dead Redemption, fueling excitement among fans awaiting official announcements from Rockstar Games.
Grand Theft Auto 6 PC Files Leak
While updating Grand Theft Auto V for PC and the Rockstar Games Launcher, Rockstar Games leaked the PC folders for Grand Theft Auto 6, Red Dead Redemption for PC, and GTA Online's current-gen feature folders.
According to X, a prominent Rockstar Games insider named Tez2 said that last week's update—which included the third-party anti-cheat program BattlEye—included a metadata file.
Unauthorized Folders Discovered
Along with this update for GTA V, Rockstar has updated the Rockstar Games Launcher to accommodate BattlEye. You may enable or disable it in the launcher's settings. Having said that, there were three directories in the Rockstar update that shouldn't have been accessible at this time.
Right next to Grand Theft Auto V Gen9 is the Americas folder, and there's also a Read Dead Redemption folder. They may have recently included files from Grand Theft Auto 6's forthcoming game, Project Americas, into an anti-cheat upgrade.
Rockstar and PlayStation Both Leaked Files
The files for Red Dead Redemption have been leaked multiple times, first by Rockstar and then by PlayStation (according to WCCFTECH), as the latter's legal documentation for the PlayStation 5 port of the game included a passage mentioning the PC version.
The folders have been removed from the Rockstar Games Launcher version of the GTA 5 update after fans observed them examining the files. This means that individuals who haven't installed the update yet will not be able to view the leaked data. Nevertheless, the folders may still be accessed in the Rockstar Games folder for Steam users who have the game installed.
Considering they fixed this in a mini-patch for the Rockstar Games Launcher, it's unclear if this will be corrected in the same way.
SteamDB Listings Fuel Rumors
Additionally, Tez2 provided direct connections to SteamDB, purportedly for PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption in their Gen9 editions. Rumor has it that the one you're looking for is the PC version of Red Dead Redemption.
