“GTA 6” is officially the longest entry for the entire franchise as the fifth installment is turning six years old this month. While Take-Two and Rockstar have maintained their silence about the title, the rumor mill has been going on overdrive in the past several months.
Add the fact that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently spoke about the future of titles under the company’s umbrella and it’s not surprising why the gaming community is on the edge of their seat. Strauss said that eight years is too long a gap between the releases of Triple-A titles. With “GTA 6” being in development purgatory for a long time and Zelnick’s aforementioned comment, we could be looking at a 2020 or 2021 release date for “GTA 6.”
But another rumor is contradicting this timeline. Apparently, Rockstar’s resources aren’t being poured in “GTA 6” but are concentrated on another title, “Bully 2,” Daily Star reported.
GTA 6 and Bully 2’s development phase
Leaked images of the title are already making its round on the web although the photos are blurry. One of the images showed a map of the game, while another is showing a character standing in front of a gated estate. Of course, with the quality of the photos and Rockstar maintaining its silence, it’s difficult to confirm that “Bully 2” is being prioritized by the studio rather than “GTA 6.”
Meanwhile, another news had momentarily scared “GTA” fans when it was announced that the Australian board of classification has banned an unnamed title. Gamers were concerned that it may have been “GTA 6” but breathed a sigh of relief when it was revealed that the title is actually the PC version of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” Express reported.
GTA 6 and the prediction of a gaming analyst
It’s still unclear why the board banned the game since the console version has been greenlighted with no issue. As for “GTA 6” and its release date, it will likely arrive once the next-gen console hits the market since Rockstar is highly likely developing it to take advantage of the new capabilities of the PS5 and Scarlett.
The most realistic date is late 2020 or early 2021. This is also the prediction of game analyst Michael Pachter, with his assumption rooted in the long gap of “RDR1” and “RDR2.” In any case, we’ll likely hear more about “GTA 6” in next year’s E3. The good news is that there are a lot of gripping titles that are slated to come out in the next few months that will help tide over the gaming community until the sixth installment arrives.
