Insiders and reporters with sources within Rockstar offer conflicting information about the status of the “GTA 6” development. One says it is just in the early stages, but other known leakers insist the project has been underway for a long time already.
‘GTA 6’ close to being complete?
The next numbered installment of the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise has been in the wish list of many fans for several years now. However, they have yet to receive that coveted announcement or teaser confirming the release of the game. But that does not mean that the rumor mill has been quiet about “GTA 6.”
Over the years, there have been plenty of sporadic leaks and updates about Rockstar Games’ plans for the game. Most recently, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier reported on the changes Rockstar has undertaken to address its controversial workplace culture over the past year and a half.
It was mentioned in the same report that “GTA 6” is still in “early stages of development.” This suggests that it has not been that long since Rockstar started the project and that it would take several more years before it is officially announced and launched. However, two known leakers contradict it.
Known Rockstar insider Tezfun2 showed respect for Schreier’s work on helping developers for big video game studios tackle the crunch culture, but suggest that he could be wrong on the detail on “GTA 6.” Tezfun2 added saying the game is still in the early stages of development is “most likely a mistake” and that the game is purportedly about 60 to 70 percent complete. Yan2295, who formally stopped leaking Rockstar plans per Take-Two’s request in 2018, also weighed in saying, “It's just not possible. ... Maybe early stages of testing, sure, but not of development.”
‘GTA 6’ announcement imminent?
Some fans are inclined to believe Tezfun2 and Yan2295. Aside from their track records (and the fact that it favors everyone’s wishes), gamers are considering the fact that it has been roughly seven years since “GTA V” was released. In the video game world, that should be enough time for the next installment development to commence and progress significantly.
If the development of “GTA 6” has really been in the works for years now, then it should be possible for the official announcement to happen at least in 2021. There is also a small chance of it taking place this year, but that still depends on how the COVID-19 crisis will develop in the coming months.
