‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is reportedly filming in Iceland on January with six major characters such as Sansa and Jon. George R. R. Martin, author of the original source novels, apparently didn’t agree with some of the changes show creators D. B. Weiss and David Benioff have done for season 6.
According to Express, the incoming season will reportedly begin production sometime in January 2017. Cast and crew members of HBO’s critically-acclaimed fantasy drama television series will be heading to Iceland to shoot some scenes. It was reported that the production team have already met with a local film production studio.
Creator D.B. Weiss revealed that they are yet to confirm an official broadcast date for season 7 during an interview with the UFC Unfiltered podcast. Weiss said, “We don’t have an air date yet, but this year will probably be a little bit later… We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘winter is here’, and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more.”
He added, “So we kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
It was also reported that six major characters are set to return for filming in Iceland. Although unconfirmed, the actors making appearances during filming in the Nordic nation include Kit Harrington as Jon Snow, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark, Ellie Kendrick as Meera Reed, and Aidan Gillen as Peter Baelish a.k.a. Littlefinger.
Meanwhile, Weiss and co-creator David Benioff revealed that George R. R. Martin didn’t agree with everything they’ve done with the show so far. According to the Independent, season 6 gave them full creative control with the direction of the series since the storyline has already overtaken Martin’s original books.
They said, "We talked to George a lot about this - especially when we started out the process - and the great thing about George is that he worked in television for more than 10 years, He'd got Emmy nominations before this [show] so he knew how the sausage got made. A lot of authors who have their work adapted have never been part of an adaptation process before and they get really precious about every last thing."
The two added, "Not to say that George has agreed with everything we've done, but by and large, on the grander scale, he gets what you need to do to adapt something and he's a grown-up and a gentleman about it."
‘Game of Thrones’ is a multi-award winning fantasy-drama television series aired on HBO. It is based on the fantasy novels ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ authored by George R. R. Martin. Season 7 is scheduled to premiere some time in 2017.
