“Game of Thrones” season 8 is set to blow the minds of its fans after the multiple major twists revealed in the previous season. One of the things that floored the fantasy drama’s avid watchers was the revelation of Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) real identity.
And while book readers have long suspected that this is the case, casual show watchers were caught off guard. It’s still unclear what fate has in store for Jon Snow in “Game of Thrones” season 8, but it’s safe to say that he’s going to be an integral part in stopping the Night King and his relentless army of the dead.
The eighth installment of the show is slated for release in 2019, which gives the fans plenty of time to speculate on major and minor events that will happen. Among these speculations is the connection between Jon Snow (whose real name is Aegon Targaryen) and his loyal direwolf, Ghost.
The brainstorming was prompted in a Reddit post where a user asked if there’s a reason why Jon got a direwolf with white hair. The question is in relation to the fact that Jon’s father's side of the family has the same shade of hair, Express reported.
“I don’t think it is a coincidence. It is a good point. The Direwolves are laden with omens, ever since the mother Direwolves died with an antler signifying that Robert will be the cause of death of Ned,” the user, mohelgamal, answered.
Another possible link is offered by Reddit user G-Girl95, saying that Ghost’s coat alludes to the weirwood/heart trees, which Jon also brought up in the books. Another user added that the children of the forest and the Blood Raven may have sent the direwolves to help the Stark family deal with the looming threat.
Whatever the case, only those closely involved with the show’s development can correctly answer this question. Even the main stars of the series have been kept ignorant about the fate of their characters, revealing the event only when that specific scene is going to be shot.
The crew has already wrapped up filming “Game of Thrones” season 8, with the cast saying goodbye to everyone involved in the worldwide-hit fantasy drama. The final installment will have only six episodes, as HBO reported. While this is the last season of the epic saga, HBO has already set in motion the production of the series’s prequels, this time focusing on the events that happened thousands of years before the time of the current conflict.
