AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, March 15, 2016 -- Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, has won the GSN 2015 Homeland Security Awards Best Identity Management Platform award for its Coesys Document Verificationsolution. Government Security News, the standard of editorial quality in the homeland security field, honored Gemalto's innovative solution for its ability to mitigate risk of identity fraud and document forgery. Gemalto's award is based on the recent implementation of the solution with California's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The technology is being used in 200 DMV offices across California to verify the authenticity of such documents as passports and identity cards specifically when Californian's apply for a new driver's license.
According to Javelin Strategy and Research, one incident of identity fraud occurs every 2 seconds in the United States demonstrating the growing need for reliable ID document verification. For a state DMV, Gemalto's technology offers a flexible solution to keep up with the demands of changing infrastructures, technologies and document standard. Coesys Document Verification automatically verifies the electronic and physical security features of identity documents, which are also checked against templates stored in a database that can be administrated centrally and synchronized into all local repositories.
"We are much honored to receive this prestigious award. Using Gemalto's sophisticated technology, a DMV can streamline the review process, overcome the challenge of authenticating foreign documents and identify any document abnormalities or defects" said Steve Purdy, Gemalto's Vice-President. "In July 2015, we announced California's award of Gemalto as their technology provider for an identity document verification solution. Starting off 2016, we are pleased to share this award win with California's entire DMV team, and look forward to the opportunity to continue working with them on innovative driver's license and security programs as well as other DMVs who face the same challenges. "
