Global Geopolitical Series: China claims new anti-missile cooperation breakthrough with Russia

According to information bureau of China’s ministry of defense (MoD), China held military drill with Russian counterparts between December 11th and December 16th and achieved new breakthroughs in anti-missile cooperation, however, the ministry neither revealed the nature of the purported breakthroughs nor revealed the number of troops or specific units participating in the exercise, except for adding that two militaries conducted joint exercises on the planning, command, and firepower coordination of air defense and anti-missile operations supported by computer simulations.

Russia’s ministry of defense (MoD) said in a statement that the purpose of the drill is to test command and control mechanisms and swift joint responses to “accidental and inflammatory strikes of ballistic missiles.”

The drill comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, where the United States under the leadership of President Trump relentlessly adding economic pressure on North Korea and conducting joint military drills with Japan and South Korea. North Korea’s Kim regime has so far defied U.S. pressure and yet again test-fired a new type ballistic missile in November.

China and Russia have jointly called for the United States to stop conducting drills in the region in exchange for Kim regime’s stopping of missile testing.
