Speaking at the Heritage Foundation think tank, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley took the opportunity to once again bash the United Nations Human Rights Council by calling it the biggest failure, in order to justify the abrupt U.S. exit earlier this year. As the United States faced widespread condemnation over its decision to quit the council, Haley once again explain that the sheer presence of countries like China, Cuba, and Venezuela with the long history of human rights abuse tarnish the council, “its members included some of the worst human rights violators – the dictatorships of Cuba, China and Venezuela all have seats on the Council."
She once again highlighted the two major reasons behind U.S. exit; one mentioned above and the other being strong bias against the United States’ close ally Israel, “The Human Rights Council has focused its attention unfairly, and relentlessly on Israel meanwhile it ignored the misery, inflicted by regimes in Venezuela, Cuba, Zimbabwe, and China."
As the United States exit from the UNHRC and cut its funding to the organization, there could be severe cash crunch to many of its missions.
