GoPro HERO8 Black has finally arrived in stores, and just as expected, it carries several improvements in its specs and features to set itself apart from its predecessor HERO7 Black clearly. It is also not surprising that the new series of action camera comes with a higher price tag, so the only question is if the cost increase is worth it.
GoPro HERO8 Black specs, features: What’s new and improved from HERO7 Black?
The obvious way to determine if the GoPro HERO8 Black is worth its higher price tag is to dissect its specs and features. At a glance, it can be observed that the improvements in the new action camera are mostly made possible by the new generation of technologies developed by GoPro.
GoPro HERO8 Black is packed with the 2.0 versions of the company’s Hypersmooth and TimeWarp features. GoPro promises a “radical” improvement in Hypersmooth 2.0 with multilevel stabilization and horizon leveling that can be controlled through the GoPro mobile app. Internet content creators might also be delighted to know that the video streaming quality has been improved from 720p to 1080p on GoPro HERO8 Black.
As for TimeWarp 2.0, its highlight enhancement is the automatic selection of speed and lighting for time-lapse videos. The Night Lapse feature is also introduced on GoPro HERO8 Black. As the name suggests, it allows users to take well-lit clips and capture how the night sky changes while also highlighting the changing scenery throughout the evening.
Taking still images are also improved on GoPro HERO8 Black through the LiveBurst option and pairing the camera’s SuperPhoto feature with Improved HDR. These are not available on HERO7 Black. With the LiveBurst on, GoPro users can capture images within 1.5 seconds before and after activating the shutter and select the best shot or combine several photos to make a three-second video in 4K quality.
GoPro HERO8 Black price and how to order
The other good news is GoPro HERO8 Black is already available, and shipping has started since Oct. 15. It is priced $399.99 – a $70 difference compared to HERO7 Black’s $329.99 price tag. The official GoPro site also offers free shipping.
There are more improved features on GoPro HERO8 Black, but those listed above best sets the new camera apart from its predecessor. Overall, it seems like $70 is a considerable price increase.
