“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” has not even hit theatres yet and already the director is talking about the sequel. Specifically, he discussed what monsters among the extensive list of the “Godzilla” universe he would like to showcase to moviegoers. Among them would be Biollante and Gigan, which would present a major shift in the kind of themes that the franchise has been presenting up to this point.
Michael Dougherty, the director of “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” recently revealed his thoughts on the possibility of a sequel in a recent interview, Comic Book reports. He noted that if given the opportunity to direct the sequel, among his top picks of monsters to be added would be the mutated Biollante and the dangerous Gigan.
Fans of classic “Godzilla” films will undoubtedly know who these monsters are, but for some context, Biollante is basically the result of a human girl getting fused with a rose and then forced to mutate using the DNA of Godzilla. If that sounds like a recipe for disaster, it’s exactly because a disaster is what it turned out to be, and Dougherty wants it for the “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” sequel.
If such a monster were to be added to the film following “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” it would be the first time that the Monster Universe merges human hubris with that of titans. Such a development would also touch on more emotional storytelling with the aforementioned girl being a victim of careless scientific pursuits.
As for Gigan, this testy beastie would certainly be a wonderful addition to the “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” sequel if it ever happens. Wielding blades that allowed it to be the first monster in the Toho films to make Godzilla bleed, he would be a formidable monster for the king to fight against.
