Google Expeditions, a virtual reality teaching tool built with Google Cardboard, has been used by over 100,000 students as part of the Expeditions Pioneer Program launched in September 2015.
According to Google, “Expeditions is a virtual reality platform built for the classroom. We worked with teachers and content partners from around the world to create more than 100 engaging journeys – making it easy to immerse students in entirely new experiences.”
The tech giant announced on Monday that the program will now expand to more cities as well as countries. In the U.S., it will now mark its presence in Alexandria, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City and Washington DC.
The program will be also expanding to Toronto in Canada, along with Denmark and Singapore, the blog post said.
The expansion is facilitated by Google’s partners at Subaru. As part of the program, the schools get an Expeditions kit that includes ASUS smartphones, a tablet for the teacher, a router and viewers that turn phones into virtual reality headsets. Some kits include Mattel’s new View-Master virtual reality viewers, others include Google Cardboard.
