The Google Pixel 3 is Google’s latest attempt at making its mark in the smartphone industry, and it has been doing well, so far. However, an unfortunate theft of several Google Pixel 3XL units has led to some major PR problems for the company. Not only has it resulted in many unboxing videos, it likely won’t be stopped due to the fact that the smartphones are in the hands of the Russians.
As BGR reports, several units of the Google Pixel 3XL were recently stolen and then sold to the black market. This might make it seem like the new versions of the Google Pixel 3 smartphone are being treated like illegal drugs, but they might as well be, at this point. In any case, this event resulted in the device becoming featured in numerous reviews months ahead of its scheduled unveiling.
This is incredibly damaging for Google, mostly because it gives the industry a long time for the hype to die down. Unveilings are important for smartphone manufacturers because it builds on anticipation, which can often contribute to an increase in sales. With this massive Google Pixel 3 leak, however, a lot of that anticipation will be gone by the time October comes around.
Adding to the Google Pixel 3 woes that the company will be experiencing, unboxing videos of the Google Pixel 3XL are already making their rounds on the web. An electronics store in Russia made a clip of its own, showing off some of the features of the device. Even the massively popular electronics YouTube channel Unbox Therapy got in on the action with its own unboxing of the device.
At this point, there’s no telling how this latest Google Pixel 3 will affect the performance of the Google Pixel 3XL in terms of its sales. The device seems to be an excellent mobile option, but then so are many of its competitors.
