News and rumors about the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL have been swirling around the web since last year and it seems production for these smartphones has finally started. Their code names have also been discovered, along with some key features. It seems that the design of these smartphones will still retain the ugly notch design that the iPhone X started.
With the codenames “blueline” and “crosshatch,” the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL lineup of phones is reportedly starting production, Firstpost reports. The devices have been featured in builds for Android Open Source Project (AOSP). With the increasing references to these codenames with regards to AOSP, manufacturing has likely already begun when considering the timeline of their likely release.
There was actually supposed to be another device with the codename “albacore,” but no one seems to be certain if it is another smartphone in addition to the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL offerings. It could be something else entirely, but a third Pixel smartphone can’t be ruled out. It could be referring to the supposed new Pixelbook that will reportedly launch alongside these smartphones, Neowin notes.
In terms of specs, the details with regards to these smartphones have not been concrete so far. It has been speculated that the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL will come with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. This is supposedly for the basic models. With regards to design, it seems that the phones will still come with the infamous notch as well.
The choice to keep the notch while stretching out the screen to remove as much of the bezel as possible is not something that is unique to the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL offerings. However, more and more companies are now beginning to realize that it’s a poor design choice. These days, it’s either completely all-screen or nothing.
