Currently, the only popular Battle Royale game that PlayStation 4 owners can play is Fortnite Battle Royale. While the game is superb and comes with a lot of great features, it can be too cartoonish for a lot of players. This is why the news that H1Z1 is coming to the console might make a lot of gamers happy, which is further compounded by the fact that it’s a free game.
Recently, the Battle Royale scene has been dominated by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, but H1Z1 by the Daybreak Game Company has actually been on the scene way before either one. In fact, PUBG creator Brendan Greene AKA “PlayerUnknown,” actually helped in the creation of H1Z1’s Battle Royale mode, Destructoid notes.
At the time, the mode was known as King of the Kill. This was before it was eventually rebranded as simply H1Z1.
The PS4 version will have a few key differences compared to its PC counterpart, however. As Tony Morton and Eric Correll of Daybreak explained to the publication, movement and combat will be more streamlined to suit the console’s controller scheme.
“We’re really excited. It’s a pure version of B-R [battle royale] on console,” Morton, Lead Systems Designer at Daybreak, explained to me. “It’s focused on movement and combat, getting in, getting down, getting around the map, picking up weapons and just focuses on conflict. With our heritage and history, we’re just big fans of PlayStation and Sony. It’s an awesome console with a great community and we thought it was the best way to make our entrance into the console scene.”
For anyone interested in trying it out, there will be a closed beta for the game for PS4 that will be happening over the weekend, Polygon reports. It will require registration over at the game’s official website to give the title a whirl on the console.
