The “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premiere is extra special for the fact that it happens just a little over a week from the actual 50th anniversary of the entire franchise. And to make sure fans get to genuinely celebrate this milestone, one of the most unforgettable villains, Wo Fat (Khigh Dhiegh in 1968, Mark Dacascos in 2010), will return.
Fans will take a trip down memory lane upon watching the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premiere. Apart from the title, the episode will also recreate the context for the franchise’s pilot episode that aired in 1968.
McGarrett (currently Alex O’Loughlin; Jack Lord in 1968) will be investigating the death of his friend from the CIA in the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 opener. To do that, he needs to board a ship controlled by his suspects where he goes through a “torturous sensory deprivation tank.”
TVLine recently shared the first-look photo for “Hawaii Five-0” season 9’s first episode, and its resemblance to its 1968 counterpart is uncanny. McGarrett wears a red bodysuit while being restrained and facing his tormentor.
However, in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9’s “Cocoon” episode, Wo Fat is only a product of McGarrett’s imagination after enduring the sensory deprivation chamber. The photo shared by TVLine shows that the guy who is actually torturing him is a different person named Kang, who will be portrayed by Roger Yuan.
Wo Fat was McGarrett’s arch nemesis in seasons 1 to 5 of the TV series. So it is going to be interesting how his appearance will affect McGarrett’s dangerous investigation in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9.
On the other hand, Tani (Meaghan Rath) will also face a difficult situation once the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premieres. According to official teasers, she will find a murder weapon in Adam's (Ian Anthony Dale) house. She then has to decide whether or not tell McGarrett about it.
For the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9’s premiere, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov will be putting his own spin to “Cocoon” based on what the late Leonard Freeman, creator of the 1968 series, penned for viewers 50 years ago. “Cocoon” airs on Friday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
