President Isaac Herzog is expected to consult smaller parties on Wednesday, Nov. 4, before choosing a lawmaker to try to form Israel’s next government, Anadolu Ajansı reported.

The Knesset has 120 seats, so a majority requires 61. A five-leader opposition pact was nine seats short of that threshold, and its members had not settled on a prospective government leader, EconoTimes previously reported.

Basic Law: The Government requires the president to assign the first lawmaker within seven days after final election results are published. The Central Elections Committee was expected to publish those results by Nov. 4, with seat allocations subject to change until then.

After consultations, Herzog selects a Knesset member to try to form a government. The president’s office says the candidate has 28 days, with an extension of up to 14 more days available.
