Huawei Set to Unveil Kirin 9010 Chipset for Upcoming P70 Series Flagships

Huawei's upcoming P70 flagship series rumored to feature the innovative Kirin 9010 chipset, signaling a new era in smartphone technology.

The P70 series will be Huawei's first flagship lineup of the year, with the standard model followed by the P70 Pro and, most likely, the top-tier model, the P70 Art.

To differentiate the introduction from the Mate 60 in 2023, which utilized the Kirin 9000S, a fresh rumor suggests that Huawei is building a new chipset for the forthcoming series of flagship smartphones known as the Kirin 9010.

Huawei Rumored To Be Developing New Kirin 9010 Chipset For Next P70 Flagship Series

The Kirin 9000S is not expected to be used in the next P70 series because, according to Weibo tipster “Smart Pikachu,” a new Kirin 9010 is being tested with the flagship lineup. Unfortunately, as you might expect, important facts concerning the Kirin 9010 have not been revealed, although we may make some conclusions about its lithography based on previous data and a speculated name.

Given that the Kirin 9000S and Kirin 9010 have the same “9” naming scheme, it is probable that the latter is simply a tweaked version of the silicon found in the Mate 60 series. Huawei had already taken this method with the Kirin 9000SL, a slightly slower variant of the Kirin 9000S. However, it should be noted that it has a different CPU cluster.

Anticipating Kirin 9010 Details: Huawei's Next Move in Semiconductor Technology

The Kirin 9010 may have comparable qualities to the Kirin 9000SL, such as a different CPU configuration, but we will have to wait for those details. It is also believed that similar to the Kirin 9000S, Huawei has no choice but to employ SMIC's 7nm process for the Kirin 9010, as per WCCFTech. We say this because, during an earlier disassembly of Huawei's Qingyun L540 laptop, it was discovered that the 5nm Kirin 9006C was really manufactured by TSMC rather than SMIC.

This led us to assume that SMIC's 5nm node is not yet ready, despite previous reports indicating that China's top semiconductor manufacturer will begin mass production of its 5nm technology utilizing conventional DUV equipment rather than cutting-edge EUV machinery. When we discover more about the Kirin 9010, we will share further information. Huawei traditionally reveals its flagship smartphone series during Mobile World Congress (MWC), so we'll see if the company continues this pattern next month.
