LiveMint reported Hyundai Motor India launched the Bayon on Oct. 26, while separately reporting CEO Tarun Garg’s view that annual sales of the SUV and Creta could exceed 250,000 over the next 12 months.

Garg was looking at combined annual volume above 250,000 for the two models, compared with about 170,000 currently, LiveMint reported. The outlet also said Hyundai views the Bayon as serving a different customer group from the Creta, with the models complementing each other.

Hyundai’s annual report recorded 201,921 Creta sales in FY2025-26 alone. That figure covers a completed fiscal year, while LiveMint described the current annual sales pace for both SUVs, so the figures refer to different periods.

Hyundai’s Oct. 12 announcement had scheduled the Bayon’s launch for Oct. 26 and listed a four-cylinder, 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 115 PS. Buyers could choose a six-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), and bookings opened with a payment of ₹11,000.

The company said the Bayon would have its first generative AI voice assistant, using technology from Perplexity and SoundHound AI. It also listed two 12.3-inch displays among the SUV’s features.

Hyundai reported domestic sales of 584,906 vehicles in FY2025-26, down from 598,666 a year earlier. Domestic SUV sales totaled 399,569, compared with 410,199 in FY2024-25. Exports moved in the opposite direction, rising 16.4% to 190,125. Hyundai’s annual report linked part of the domestic decline to fewer product enhancements than rivals.

In an Oct. 23 prelaunch release, Hyundai said it planned to start deliveries during the festive season and would communicate timing at launch.
