Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top automaker, announced on Tuesday a striking redesign of the all-new Santa Fe SUV. The fifth-generation model, set for a global release in August, boasts a cutting-edge design mirroring outdoor lifestyle trends and features increased interior space. This model's debut follows Hyundai's reported dip in global sales last year.
Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai's Global Design Center, Lee Sang-yup, described the all-new Santa Fe as an SUV that remarkably balances urban living and outdoor exploration. The overall transformation departs from the previous curvaceous and bold body designs, embracing an elegant yet futuristic appearance.
Compared to the previous generation, the all-new Santa Fe boasts a longer body with a shorter front overhang, resulting in a more spacious interior that surpasses its mid-sized SUV counterparts. The extended wheelbase, roomy cabin, and terrace-like tailgate area provide a premium customer experience.
The design elements are inspired by Hyundai's iconic 'H' emblem, with H-shaped headlamps and taillights perfectly complementing the H-motif front bumper design. Inside, horizontal and vertical lines dominate the interior space, accentuated by the H-motif dashboard and air vents, creating a unique sensibility.
Regarding functionality, the second-and third-row seats are fully foldable, offering class-leading flexibility and interior space. The all-new Santa Fe also proudly introduces a dual smartphone charging station, a first for Hyundai.
Hyundai plans to release the new Santa Fe in the domestic market during the third quarter, with vehicles manufactured in Korea designated for local sales and exports. Meanwhile, Santa Fe models for the U.S. market will be produced at Hyundai's Alabama plant.
The all-new Santa Fe holds significant promise for Hyundai Motor after a recent decline in global sales. In 2022, sales figures dropped to 49,812 units, down from 58,621 in the previous year. However, since its initial launch in 2000, Hyundai has sold over 1.4 million Santa Fes in South Korea.
Stay tuned for the core specifications of The All-New Santa Fe, set to be revealed in August, as Hyundai Motor continues to push boundaries and redefine the SUV segment.
